Les Caillottes Sancerre 2014

Sancerre is an Appellation in the Loire valley in France known primarily for its Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir is produced there also as both red and rose.

The Sauvignon Blanc from Sancerre tends to be very crisp and have a minerality unique to the region, which makes it a bit different stylistically than any other SB in the world. As a Direct Import from our friends at Advintage Distributing, this wine is a great value for a lovely version of Sancerre Sauvignon Blanc!

Try lemon-herbed chicken, grilled fish with mango salsa, caprese salad, mushroom and goat cheese tart or seafood pasta.
Fresh goat cheeses, creamy Brie, triple creme cheeses, ricotta, feta and Parmigiano-Reggiano all go well with Sancerre, as do oysters and mussels

Frescobaldi Nipozzano Chianti Rufina Riserva 2012

Sangiovese and complementary grapes (Malvasia nera, Colorino, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon)

Nippozzano is an Castle in Rufina, originally built in 1371, this is of the historic wines of the property.
This is a serious wine, Chianti is known for having high acidy and firm tannins, Nippozzano is no exception, but with dark and elegant fruit, the producer’s notes say it well: Nipozzano Riserva is a lovely ruby-red. The nose opens with dark wild berries and cherry, hints of candy floss and pleasant floral notes of lilac and chocolate. The spicy component emerges with nuances of clove and green peppercorn. The palate is characterized by a distinct tactile approach in which the stamp of the terroir is underlined by a lively minerality. The tannin texture is tight but not sharp which is also an expression of the uniqueness of the soils of Nipozzano. The finish returns to the intense fruity notes already identified on the nose.

Pair with barbecued meat and beef stews, aged cheeses.

JS92
James Suckling – “Lots of mineral, dried berry and cherry aromas and flavors. Full body, bright acidity and a silky finish. Plenty going on. Love the dark fruit and mineral character on the finish. Drink or hold.”
(Andrew’s note- drinking well now, but a couple or five years might soften this wine very nicely)

Here’s a short article about the Nippozzano castle with pictures of wine barrels lined inside the castle walls
