Wine Selections May 2013
Viognier
2011, Val de Salis.
Vin de Pays d'Oc, France
This
Viognier delivers lovely peach, orange, apricot and honeysuckle aromas
and flavors, a creamy
texture, and a slight mineral note mineral at the end. There’s a lively
contrast between the ripe fruit and the tangy acid in the finish.
Delicious aperitif. Excellent match to salads and lighter dishes. It's
dry yet it goes well with salad dressings and with exotic cuisines. A
wonderful warm-weather wine.
Cryptic Red Blend 2011
California
"Very dark ruby color; red plum, light spice
nose; juicy, tart plum,
red plum, tart berry, ripe currant, mocha palate; medium finish (44%
Zinfandel, 24 % Petite Sirah, 23%
Cabernet Sauvignon, and 9% other red varieties). The zinfandel
component is brimming with brambly, intense red berry flavors. Inky,
intense Petite Sirah provides
depth and color
and concentration, while elegantly structured, silky Cabernet Sauvignon
adds polish and complexity." Grilled meats and stir-fried
veggies. Lamb kebobs.
